Michelle is a seasoned recruiter with over 17 years of experience placing partners and associates in top AmLaw firms, prestigious regional firms, and high-end boutiques. She has placed over 300 lawyers since becoming a recruiter. She focuses on Southern California and New York, which tracks her own legal career, having worked at big firms in both New York City and Los Angeles.

Before co-founding Hatch Henderson Fivel, Michelle was a Partner with Major, Lindsey & Africa, where she was a consistent top-performing and respected recruiter in the firm. Prior to becoming a recruiter, Michelle was an associate at Jones Day and then at Kasowitz Benson in New York City, before moving laterally to Skadden Arps in Los Angeles. Michelle knows what it’s like to make important law firm career moves, having lived through these moves herself.

Michelle takes time to get to know attorneys on a personal level to truly understand their motivations and personality styles so that she can help them find their optimal platform. She develops long-term relationships and acts as a career counselor to countless attorneys who consult her regularly for help working through their career goals, regardless of whether they are actively considering other firms.

Major law firms turn to Michelle for professional advice regarding the lateral market and assistance with a wide range of searches. She has earned their trust through years of consistently delivering high-quality candidates. These relationships enable her to keep on top of firm developments and recruiting priorities, which inure to the benefit of her candidates.

Michelle is the co-author of MLA’s groundbreaking Millennial Survey series and is often quoted in the national and local legal press. She has been invited to speak to a meeting of AmLaw 100 law firm Chairs on millennials, as well as numerous top law schools including Harvard, NYU, Georgetown, Columbia, USC, UCLA, and Penn to give career advice to their students.

Michelle lives in New Jersey with her husband and two children and their Brittany Spaniel (Kimber). She enjoys skiing (even on the icy East Coast), distance running, and hot yoga as well as coaching youth soccer and shuttling her children to soccer, baseball, swimming and drum lessons.
